Cohesive Gel Breast Implants

Cohesive gel breast implants were created as an answer to some of the complications that other implants have. They are meant to last long and have the ability to hold their shape. These implants have a strong gel inserted into them that has the feel of a gummy bear.

The thick gel that comes inside of the cohesive gel breast implants is thicker than other types used for breast augmentation. They also have a thicker outer shell than many other kinds. This helps make them the more durable option in breast implants. The Cohesive Gel implants are becoming a favorite among many patients as well as cosmetic surgeons today. Women who choose this implant often say that they look and feel more like a natural breast to them.

The construction of the cohesive gel implants allows them to have fewer problems than many other types of implants. They were created to eliminate the chances of rupturing that many other types of implants have the complication of doing. If a rupture does happen, the implant can hold its shape for quite a while before needing to be replaced. When a silicone implant ruptures the body will absorb the saline solution. This creates the implant to go flat and become very noticeable to the eye. The cohesive gel used in the gummy bear implants is designed to keep its shape and stay in place even without the help of an outer shell. These implants also come in several sizes that patients and physicians can choose from. Complaints of hearing noises and sounds of implants are also less likely with the cohesive gel implants than with others. The thick gel does not slosh inside of the shell like those created out of saline often do.

While there are many advantages to the cohesive gel breast implant, it, like others, also has its disadvantages. One complaint that cosmetic surgeons have is the lack of versatility in the form of placement of the implant. The only real incision area that the cohesive gel implant can use is through the areola area of the nipple. The cost of this type of implant is also another disadvantage. This will be remedied as they become more widely available in more places. They can also be provided at the same time as other cosmetic breast surgery procedures such as inverted nipple correction.

Since the cohesive gel implants have not been approved by the FDA as of yet, they are available in many places other than the United States.
